Online humorist Greg Toussaint spews hatred and disgust.
French LGBTQ rights activists have filed a complaint with a Paris prosecutor that accuses YouTube influencer Greg Toussaint of hate speech. Under French law, hate speech can be punished with a fine of 45,000 euros and a year in prison.
Translated into English from the Stop Homophobie website :
Known for his radical and extremist positions, Greg Toussaint, followed by more than 350,000 people on YouTube, has recently hardened his attacks against LGBT+ people, whom he describes as “human anomalies” with “demonic tendencies”, “a bunch of big disgusting people”, whom he equates with pedophiles.
The LGBTQ rights organizations STOP Homophobie and Mousse filed a complaint, accusing Toussaint of insults and hate speech.
A fan of Jean-Marie Le Pen and Alain Soral [right-wing French ideologues], who have been repeatedly convicted of inciting hatred, violence or homophobic insults, Greg Toussaint also presents himself as a nationalist who would like to “defend France by attacking the self-righteousness” destroying it from the inside. He is also at the origin of cyber harassment campaigns, hence the suspension of his Twitter, Facebook and Instagram accounts.
On March 16, Greg Toussaint again posted a video on his still-active YouTube channel, “TRANS*XUALS EDUCATING OUR CHILDREN,” riddled with insults and calls for violence against LGBT+ people. He stated:
- “Parenting has already hit rock bottom but you have the LGPD team thinking, ‘Hold on, what if we take them with us to hell.” [The term “LGPD” is a slur combining the abbreviations for “lesbian” and “gay” with French slang for “pedophile”.]
- “So I warn the LGBT that it will shake, because there you touch the children and I am sure that it is not only ideologically.”
- “You are above all a bunch of big disgusting people.” …
- “The country is also sinking because the young people are more and more stupid, but no, we continue to stuff human anomalies into their skulls as if this were to become the norm.
- “For my part, I am not afraid to compare the arrival of transsexuals and militant gays in schools to a form of pedophilia. There is necessarily a perverse idea behind it. Otherwise the interest is completely null as the subject is empty. For me and for science, you are men dressed as women or women dressed as men, most certainly attracted to children.
- “In a well-functioning country, you would be dealt with in the public square.”
Denial of LGBTphobic violence
Under the guise of humor, Greg Toussaint is therefore part of this movement that tends to deny the violence suffered by LGBT+ people, but which is hardly suitable for jokes. In addition to the complaint, filed on April 11, 2023, we suggest that he get informed.
More than half of the people defining themselves as homosexual, bisexual or transgender have been the object of targeted aggressions during their life. This is corroborated in studies by IFOP [the French Institute of Public Opinion polling firm]. . And, let’s also remember that homosexuality is still criminalized in more than sixty countries, including ten that provide for the death penalty.
And then, as Etienne Deshoulières, lawyer for the associations, points out, “to pronounce a discriminatory insult is to reactivate violence. When I say “dirty n——“, I legitimize the crimes of colonization, deportation and slavery that blacks have suffered for centuries. When I say “dirty k—” I am denying the genocide that Jews suffered during World War II. And when I say “f——,” I am denying the centuries of violence and oppression that homosexuals have suffered and are still suffering today!
