CAMEROON
In Cameroon, U.S. Ambassador Robert P. Jackson and U.K. High Commissioner Bharat Joshi are expected to attend this weekend’s funeral of murdered LGBT activist/journalist Eric Lembembe.
Protests of his murder are scheduled in The Hague, Netherlands, and in France.
JAMAICA
Human Rights Watch condemns killing of Jamaican transgender teenager. HRW called on Jamaica to conduct a “thorough, impartial and effective investigation” into last month’s killing of transgender teenager Dwayne Jones. The group said Jamaican authorities need to send an “unequivocal message that there will be zero tolerance for violence against lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people”.
Dwayne Jones was stabbed multiple times and shot at a party in the suburban parish of St James in July. Jones was wearing female clothing at the time of the incident and local media say the 17-year-old was attacked after a female attendee told a group Jones was male.
RUSSIA
The Russian LGBT Network is nearly overwhelmed with the volume of letters and other communications from supporters. On July 29, the network issued a statement expressing its delight, requesting patience, and urging continued action.
The network cited the following protests by supporters:
- A kiss-in in Argentina, #unbesoporrusia in Twitter
- Video of love in Canada, https://www.facebook.com/events/558164114220228/
- Flashmobs and protests in front of Russian embassies, for example [Aug. 1] in Stockholm, https://www.facebook.com/events/562072913832152/
