‘Reasons I chose to be gay’

Cluelessly anti-gay preachers and politicians often claim that they target people who “choose to be gay”, not people who are born that way. To refute that claim and build the case against a draconian anti-LGBTQ bill in the Ghana Parliament, LGBTQ rights activists in Ghana are using a tongue-in-cheek list of “Reasons I chose to be gay”.

The LGBTQ rights advocacy group Rightify Ghana wrote on Twitter:

“If it was a choice, then no one would be LGBTQI+ in a highly homophobic country like Ghana – where even though the LGBT community already experience discrimination and violence, there is also a far-reaching anti-LGBTQ bill being considered by the Ghana Parliament. #ItsNotAChoice”
