The latest news out of The Gambia is that a new court date has been set for 18 men and two women arrested after an alleged “homosexual dance.”
The Gambian news website The Point also reported that the defendants have been released on bail.
That article said the 20 people were charged with two counts of unnatural offenses and conspiracy to commit a felony. Their previously scheduled court hearing was delayed from May 8 to May 22. No reason for the delay was given.
The Observer website reported that the next court hearing has been scheduled for June 14. It quoted the lead defense attorney, L.S. Camara, as urging the prosecution to proceed with the matter in the next adjourned date or for the charges to be withdrawn against the accused persons rather than allow the case to drag on further.
