The Shams activist group, which seeks the repeal of Tunisia’s anti-homosexuality law, announced today on Facebook its response to the Jan. 4 government order that it suspend activities for 30 days:

It will appeal the decision in court. A hearing on the case is set for Jan. 18.

Shams also announced today that the Court of Appeal of Sousse, 140 kilometers south of Tunis, will hear the appeal of six students in Kairouan who were each sentenced to three years in prison after their conviction on sodomy charges last month.

Shams is calling for their immediate release.
