1000s who died in anti-gay, anti-trans attacks (update)

The pace of hate-crime murders and executions of LGBTI people is overwhelming.
The numbers are so large that this blog’s list of reported homophobic hate-crime killings of LGBTI people could not be kept updated.
The list started shortly after the murder of this blog’s journalist/activist Eric Lembembe of Cameroon, whose body was found July 15, 2013. But such murders are so numerous that the task of merely recording them proved to be more than this blog’s staff could handle. The work will be resumed if capable volunteers step forward (starting with an email to 76crimes@gmail.com).
Worldwide, hate crimes against LGBTI people are a massive problem that took the lives of many of these victims:
- The Trans Murder Monitoring project of Transgender Europe reported today (May 8, 2015) that 1,731 transgender and gender-diverse people were murdered in more than 44 countries from 2008 through 2014, including nearly 500 murdered between May 2013 and December 2014.
- The Inter-American Commission on Human Rights documented 770 killings and seriously violent attacks against LGBT persons between Jan. 1, 2013, and March 31, 2014.

The headline would be more accurate if it said 1000s die in anti-trans and anti-gay attacks. Please don’t forget the T in LGBTI…
Agreed.
Changed.
Thanks.
