Online drama series highlights the realities of LGBT Nigerians
Nigeria’s leading human rights organization hopes its drama will educate viewers
A new online drama series showcasing the lived experiences of LGBT Nigerians is now available on YouTube.
The YouTube series “She, He, They” follows the journey and challenges of four LGBT Nigerians as they navigate love, life, and friendships amidst the nation’s harsh homophobia.
The series is the latest LGBT-themed production from Nigeria’s leading human rights organization, ‘The Equal Initiative for Equal Rights (TIERs).’ It was co-directed by two award-winning filmmakers, Uyaiedu Ikpe-Etim, and Ayo T Lawson.
Ikpe-Etim, who is also a screenwriter, co-produced the upcoming groundbreaking film “14 Years and a Day,” a Nigerian LGBT-themed film about a young woman questioning the course of her relationship.
This series, aimed at educating the public about LGBT rights and issues, is a new advocacy project recently launched by TIERs to spotlight and debunk negative stereotypes and misconceptions portrayed by Nigeria’s mainstream media.
Among TIERs’ past media initiatives are the short film “Hell or High Waters,” “We Don’t Live Here Anymore” and the online series “Everything In Between.”
