3 Persons Remanded For Allegedly Assaulting Man On Suspicion Of Being Gay
The Asokore Mampong Court has remanded three suspects in police custody for allegedly assaulting, robbing, and demanding a ransom from a 22-year-old man they accused of being gay.
Despite the fact that there was no conversation about ‘gay,’ the victim was viciously attacked by the five males.
The three who are under arrest were reported to be part of a group of five who allegedly abused, robbed, sprayed a substance into the victim’s eyes, and demanded a ransom from his family because they claimed he was gay.
The 22-year-old victim was assaulted and left with glass louver blade wounds on Saturday at Kentikrono, in Kumasi after one of the accused invited him.
On Sunday [April 26], the crime was reported to police, and three of the suspects were apprehended and processed for court.
The case is adjourned until May 18, 2023, on several accusations.
The LGBTQI rights group Rightify Ghana noted:
This is an example of how organized criminal groups are targeting LGBTQI persons and their families.
Rightify Ghana also reported that one of the suspects invited the victim to the location where he was attacked.
