Police arrest two suspects, but Bangladesh’s LGBTQ community remains at risk

Human rights activists are protesting the July 19 killing of a gay man in Gazipur, just north of Dhaka, the capital of Bangladesh.
JusticeMakers Bangladesh in France (JMBF), a Paris-based human rights organization, described the killing of Mohammad Rafiqul Islam a premeditated and brutal murder, but few details of the event were available.
Two suspects were in custody, according to information provided in connection with a published photo of law enforcement agents lined up with the two arrested suspects, identified only as Nayon and Al-Amin.
JusticeMakers Bangladesh (JMBF) issued this statement protesting the murder in particular and homophobic treatment of LGBTQ Bangladeshis in general.
