Longtime LGBTQ rights advocate Eric Scharf died on Sept. 21 in Washington, D.C., after a lifetime of service to the LGBTQ community and humanity in general.
He was always a strong backer of the St. Paul’s Foundation for International Reconciliation, which supports this news site.
“It was a privilege to know him as a prophetic Episcopalian who helped create a welcoming church for everyone,” said the Rev. Albert Ogle, founder of the foundation. “He worked tirelessly and sacrificially for the international LGBTQ community and gave a home and support to many persecuted exiles from Africa and Russia. The world is a better place because of his love and belief in the dignity of all people.
“As a leading supporter of the St. Paul’s Foundation for International Reconciliation, he was instrumental in helping advocate in the World Bank, Congress and local faith communities for LGBTQ justice. Rest in Peace dear Eric.”
A Celebration of Eric’s life will be held at his parish church, St. Thomas’ Episcopal Church, 1517 18th St., N.W., Washington, D.C., at 2:30 p.m.on Saturday, Sept. 30.
The service will be streamed live on the St Thomas’ Facebook page at www.Facebook.com/StThomasDC
