Two Nigerian men have each been sentenced to two years in prison for gay sex.

According to the Nigerian news website Leadership, the men were found guilty of “unnatural tendencies or having intercourse with each other.”

The court in Mararaba, a suburb of Abuja in central Nigeria, also imposed a fine of N5,000 (about $32) on each man.

Judge Mariga Abdullahi said the “sentence was passed in hope that it will serve as a deterrent to others involved in such unnatural acts,” Leadership said.

Ifeanyi Chukwu Agah, 17, and Rabiu Benedict Yusuf, 32, were arrested March 11.
Police intervened after Rabiu refused to pay N9,000 to Ifeanyi for his services as a prostitute, the website said.

The judge rejected Rabiu’s plea for leniency because he is married with six children.

Ifeanyi sought forgiveness, saying he had repented of his actions and promising to reform, the website said.

  • The 2 years imprisonment for the persons found guilty of homosexual act,is a relatively unfortunately lenient sentence,it should have being 14 years sentence as provided by the Nigerian law,or more, this homosexuals want to ruin our society moral values wit their gay act, they want to attract the wrath of GOD to our good natural environment like in the westerners who okays it, and suffers series of natural diseasters, such immoral, unnatural and sinful desires under the guise of human right, homosexuals are undoubtedly sick persons that should be living in psychiatric centres receivng treatment, tanks to Robert mugabe for his steadfast refusal to accept such a great and among apex, sinful behaviors lack of morality and abomination in the name of socalled human right.

    • Dear Greg,

You don’t want to ruin society, and neither do homosexuals. They would like to be allowed to live in peace. They shouldn’t be imprisoned for being the way God made them.
